Didn’t get to see Saturday’s thrilling two-point win against Collingwood at Rushton Park in the JLT Community Series?

Here are the talking points.

An improved effort
All eyes were on Fremantle’s intensity after a rusty start to their pre-season against West Coast - and the team delivered a vastly improved effort around the contest.
Coming off a -201 possession differential (415 – 214) against the Eagles, Fremantle spent significantly more time on the front foot and with the ball in hand, winning the disposal count by 21 (311 – 290) and the contested posession count by 12 (111 – 99).

Welcome to the Hill show
Brothers Stephen and Bradley placed second and fifth respectively in Champion Data’s player rankings for the game, kicking three goals between them, including a super goal from Bradley.
Most importantly, it was Stephen’s presence of mind in the dying seconds – taking his time to assess his options, dodge an opponent, and hit Ed Langdon on the lead to give Freo a chance to snatch victory.

Ice-cool Ed and Freo’s youth
From 45m out and on an angle, Langdon held his nerve seal the win, and the team celebrated accordingly.
Wins matter little in the pre-season, but senior coach Ross Lyon said he was pleased the team enjoyed the moment.
“To see the passion of Ed Langdon at the end…and be serious about (the shot), to capitalise and to enjoy that moment, it is indicative of where we are at - a young passionate group and being well led at the minute by some experienced players.” – Ross Lyon

Creating opportunities
The game was close on the scoreboard, but Fremantle led in many key statistical categories.
Freo won the clearances 33 to 22, led by Lachie Neale (8) and Nat Fyfe (6). This helped to create more opportunities up front, with Freo leading the inside 50s 48 to Collingwood’s 32.
David Mundy, who was Champion Data’s highest rated player for the game, had five inside 50s, while Stephen Hill, Danyle Pearce and Cam McCarthy had four each.

Inefficiencies
A +18 differential in inside 50s suggests Fremantle could have secured a more comfortable victory if they capitalised on their opportunities, and limited the damage when Collingwood moved forward.
From two JLT Series games, Fremantle have conceded the most goals per inside 50, with 37.7 per cent resulting in a goal for the opposition.
Up front, Fremantle are converting 26.7 per cent of inside 50s into goals, ranked eight best in the competition.

6 day break
Fremantle have a six day break going into their next game against Carlton at Domain Stadium on Friday night. With four six-day breaks in the 2017 home and away season, Freo can use this week to test how quickly they can recover and prepare for the next game.
