Fremantle’s Ed Langdon has agreed to terms for a contract extension, re-signing with the club until the end of season 2017.

The 20-year-old has played 15 games for Fremantle, including 13 in season 2016 where he kicked eight goals.

Langdon was drafted with pick 54 in the 2014 national draft and debuted in round 22, 2015, against Melbourne, collecting 18 possessions.

He became a regular in the Fremantle side in 2016, playing six consecutive games from round 18 through to the end of the season, and is currently playing in the Peel Thunder side preparing to face Subiaco in the McDonald’s WAFL Grand Final on Sunday at Domain Stadium.

Langdon said his confidence in Fremantle’s future direction influenced his decision to re-sign with the club.

“The direction of the club is really positive,” Langdon said.

“There is a lot of good, young talent coming through and, combined with a fair bit of experience, it will stand the club in good stead for the next few years.

“I’m really excited about what next year and beyond holds for the club.”

Langdon, who is “loving life” in Perth, said he had started to “find his feet” in his second year at Fremantle.

“I love it in Perth, with the really friendly and relaxed lifestyle…the beaches and the weather help as well,” he said.

“Your first year can be a bit of a blur but in your second year you start to find your feet and get into the mould of AFL football.”

General manager of list management Brad Lloyd said the club was delighted that Langdon had extended his contract.

“Ed has fitted well into the club since being drafted in 2014 and has shown some promising signs with his football attributes and strong running capacity,” Lloyd said.

“We look forward to seeing Ed continue to develop his football with the club.”
