Fremantle utility Tendai Mzungu has extended his contract with the club until at least the end of the 2016 season.

Mzungu, who turned 29 on Saturday, was taken in the 2010 National Draft as a mature-age player and has gone on to play 86 games for the club.

He said he couldn’t be happier to sign an extension with Freo and credited club culture as a key factor in his decision.

“A lot of players have gone on record saying what good elite culture and standards we have developed here over time,” Mzungu said.

“To be a part of that for another year, I’m thrilled.”

Mzungu added it was an easy decision for him to sign.

“Being a Perth boy, there’s always a want to stay here. It’s the club that drafted me and I really think we have a bright future here at Fremantle,” he said.

“There’s was certainly no umming and ahhing from my front, it was a pretty straightforward process.”

General manager of player management Brad Lloyd said it was win-win situation for all parties involved.

“It’s great for the club but also great reward for Tendai,” he said.

“He’s a really good story, getting drafted in his mid-20s from Perth. He had played some really good WAFL footy and then he’s been outstanding since he’s arrived at the club.

“He’s become a regular player, and just the way he goes about it, as a person and as a player with his work rate, is first class.”
